Overhead Crane Load Testing
Houston Crane, Inc. provides professional load testing services for overhead cranes, hoists, jib cranes, and other lifting equipment. With test weights ranging from ¼ ton to 250 tons, we have the equipment and rigging needed to perform controlled load testing for a wide range of industrial applications.
What Is a Crane Load Test?
A crane load test verifies lifting equipment performance under controlled conditions. Depending on the equipment and applicable requirements, testing may be performed at 125% of the rated capacity, unless otherwise specified by the manufacturer.
Testing may include hoisting, lowering, braking, trolley travel, bridge travel, and observation of structural components.

When Is Load Testing Required?
Load testing is commonly performed for:
-
New overhead crane installations
-
Crane modifications and capacity upgrades
-
Certain major repairs or relocations
-
Customer-required equipment verification
OSHA 29 CFR 1910.179 establishes testing requirements for applicable overhead and gantry cranes. Annual inspections do not automatically require annual proof load testing.
Load Test Certification
Upon successful completion of testing, Houston Crane provides a load test certificate documenting the equipment identification, rated capacity, applied test load, and test results.
